During 2009 Building Studio Architects undertook a staged feasibility study for the refurbishment of the 7500m2 West Block office building in Parkes, ACT for the Commonwealth Department of Finance and Deregulation.
One of Canberra’s earliest office buildings, West Block was built in 1927 and is located in the Parliamentary Triangle. The West Block is a Commonwealth heritage listed building that forms the third member of the Old Parliament House Group.
Although one of the oldest buildings in Canberra, the West Block has not previously undergone a major renovation. The Building Studio Architects team delivered a Functional Statement of Requirements Brief and the associated project feasibility study, completed costed concept designs, planning documentation and a Functional Design Brief (base building and fit out) to enable the future procurement of this major Commonwealth Government project.
